Ralph Gracie Memorial

Ralph Gracie: Young Man From Bemidji

The Bemidji Armed Forces Veterans Memorial is dedicated to all the Men and Women who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America in defending its Freedom and Constitution.

The following is what the Monument represents:

In the center of the circle is the flag of the United States of America, a symbol of Freedom and Pride.

Surrounding the U.S. Flag are 5 stones representing the 5 Armed Forces of the United States, each dedicated to preserve and protect the freedom of our great nation.

The Veterans walk circles the monument, representing the never-ending appreciation for those who have served.

Engraved into the Veterans walk are the names of area veterans who have been prepared to, or have given their lives in defending the freedom of the United States.

The twin walks that lead to the monument signify a Path of Peace, which represent community involvement and support.

A stone representing World War II Merchant Marines rests just beyond the Veterans Walk.

The Bemidji Armed Forces Veterans Memorial is located in Ralph Gracie Park on the corner 14th Street NW and Birchmont Avenue. (Across from Deputy Hall of the Bemidji State University Campus)

Ralph Gracie Park is named after a
Bemidji resident whose life was lost while serving in the United States Air Service as a pilot in World War 1.

It is out of respect for his commitment and sacrifice for Freedom that the City of Bemidji designated this park and donated a portion of it for the construction of the Veterans Memorial.

Stones for the walk are available for a $100 donation.

Veteran stones will be engraved with the Name, Service, and Years of Service; i.e:

Smith, John D. USMC 1942 - 1945

Peace Walk stones will be engraved with the first and last name of individual.
