Past commanders of the local Forty and Eight, from left, Ron
Peterson, Leander Peterka, Bill Rice and present Chef De Gare Russ Kunkel
take their last look at their old International 2-ton truck. In the mid-1950s
the truck was transformed by World War I Forty and Eight members into a
train engine used for parades in Bemidji, Cass Lake, Blackduck, Baudette
and Brainerd. It was retired four years ago. The truck was donated to the
Pioneer Farmers located near Itasca State Park to be used to give rides
and transport people at the park.
